Thoughts & Discussions: Love Triangles

I know, I know… I just need to talk about it, I really do. I love them. They’re awesome.
There, I’ve said it! Now queue angry-love-triangle-haters with pitchforks. 🙄

calm down

What made me write about this today? Well, I’ll freaking tell you – I’ve been looking around for good paranormal/fantasy adult or new adult (I’m up to my eyeballs in YA) love triangle standalone’s or series and I can’t freaking find anything! I’ve been searching for hours and just when I think I’ve found a decent one I decide it’s not good enough. 😥 Maybe I’m being too picky because I’ve just finished reading the Fae Chronicles and feel like I need the next one to be equally awesome or I just can’t. I won’t. XD

I’ve read on so many other blogs about people disliking love triangles so much… I mean, I do kind of understand why (kind of). But then I really don’t. Come on, a girl being lusted after by two guys? All that sexual tension and giddiness of deciding who you want her to end up with? How can you say no? HOW? Or is it just me…?

Don’t get me wrong, I also love books without love triangles – but I’d choose a love triangle book over one without any day – hands down. 😛 I know, they can go very wrong and characters can turn transparent, or the endings are similar and sure, it’s hard to find a good one… But when it’s done right, it’s flipping freaking fantastic.

Here are the ones I’ve reviewed with love triangles (in order of preference) and they are all YA. I’m going back on my witch hunt for Adult/New Adult paranormal love triangles now, any suggestions would be more than welcome! ^^’

Review: Fighting Destiny by Amelia Hutchins

Fighting DestinyRating: 4stars
Type: Paranormal/Fantasy
Series: The Fae Chronicles Book 1

Have you ever heard of the old Celtic legends of the Fae – beautiful, magical, and deadly creatures that have a love of messing with humans just for kicks and giggles?

Welcome to my world.

What started out as a strange assignment, lead to one of the most gruesome murder mysteries of our times. My friends and I are set and determined to find out who is killing off Fae and Witches alike.

Couple of problems in the way – I hate the Fae and the Prince of the Dark Fae is bound and determined that I work for him. He’s a rude, overbearing egotistical ass with a compulsive need to possess, dominate and control me. Oh – did I mention that he is absolutely sex-on-a-stick gorgeous and he makes me feel things that I never ever wanted to feel for a Fae…every time he touches me or looks at me with those dangerous golden eyes he seems to pull me further in under his spell, despite my better judgment.

My friends and I can’t trust anyone and nothing is as it seems on the surface – not even me.

My Review

This is the first ‘adult fiction’ book (and faerie for that matter) I’ve ever read so I was pretty excited to start it and didn’t really know what to expect, especially since it’s fantasy erotica. It has a lot – and I mean a lot – of sexual content, so it isn’t for younger readers. ^^’ I found the book on Goodreads after looking for more adult fantasy (I’ve really gotten bored of YA) and came across this. It has really high ratings and the comments/reviews were full of praise, so I decided to give it a go! And I’m glad I did! 😀 Alright, it maybe wasn’t always the best writing and some descriptions were repetitive, and the story didn’t always flow smoothly… But I really enjoyed it! After I hit that half-way point I couldn’t stop. I finished it in a few hours and have already started on the second book!

My Review

I’ve been waiting so long for the this book to come out and for The Mortal Instruments series to come to an end. I could hardly remember anymore what had happened at the end of the fifth book, but I knew that at the time I was completely obsessed with the series. This book took me two weeks to finish. TWO WEEKS. Admittedly, I’ve been quite busy and haven’t had much time, and it’s not that I disliked the book – it was just sooooo freaking boring. It felt like it went on forever, I was close to not finishing it sometimes… But I couldn’t do that – I needed to know how it all ended because I used to really like the series.

I’m sorry TMI fans 😦

I’m back!

I’m finally back and ready to get blogging again! 😀 The end of my semester was so busy and since then I’ve just been enjoying summer and hardly had any time to read anything, let alone write about it. I’m Fighting Destinyworking on a few things to post at the moment and I have to get back to everyones messages and comments, it’ll be great to see what I’ve missed in the past months! 🙂

Naturally, I’ve composed a new reading list for myself and I’m so excited to get into them!!! 😀 A couple of them have (shamefully) been on my TBR list for waaaay too long, but also I’ve found loads of new awesome books I want to read that I’d never heard of before! I’ve just finished reading “City of Heavenly Fire“, the sixth and final instalment in The Mortal Instruments series by Cassandra Clare (review coming soon!), and I’ve started reading “Fighting Destiny” by Amelia Hutchins – looooving it. Think 50 Shades of Grey but with faeries and fantasy (a.k.a heaven).

I'm so excited, I may vomit

I’ve started getting into much more adult genre books and am beginning of come out of YA, though I don’t mind NA! 😉 So the majority of these books are adult and are quite explicit so they may not be for younger readers ^^’,  and of course all the books are in the fantasy/paranormal and assassins (my latest obsession) genre! If you have any recommendations I’d love to know them! 😀

My Review

I didn’t have a clue what I was getting myself into when I started reading Throne of Glass. I knew with all the raving reviews from different people that the book was going to be amazing, but I didn’t think I’d love it this much! And on that note, I’d like you to say hello to my FIRST EVER FIVE STAR RATING! 😮 What a beautifully narrated story, packed with most of my favourite things  – love triangles, fantasy, action, magic, romance and mystery!

DIVERGENT – Book/Movie Thoughts

“Becoming fearless isn’t the point. That’s impossible. It’s learning how to control your fear, and how to be free from it.”

I know it’s long overdue and I really should have seen this movie ages ago, but I just haven’t had any time – I was lucky it was still in the cinema! Before we even get into anything, can we just please first talk about Theo James? In all seriousness… HOLY MOTHER OF HOTNESS! XD I don’t even know what to do with myself at this point. He was the perfect Four! And I thought Shailene Woodley really suited Tris – I wasn’t sure she would initially. When I watched the first trailer I was really hesitant to watch the movie because I just didn’t think there would be any chemistry between the actors and I was terrified that the movie would ruin the book for me. Don’t worry… It didn’t 🙂

It’s been quite a few months since I read Divergent, but from what I can remember it basically follows everything that happened, except that a lot of minor(ish) characters were a lot less present in the movie than in the book. I enjoyed the movie and it was awesome to see the book come to life, even though towards the end I was starting to wonder how much longer was left of the movie (but I always struggle to sit through a whole movie!). I managed to convince two of my guy friends to watch the movie with me (they didn’t have a clue what it was about), and to my surprise they actually really enjoyed it! I mean, apart from a few of the really cheesy bits 😛

I really was pleasantly surprised with the movie, but I guess it also helps that I expected it to be so terrible that they only way it could go was up! 😉 I just didn’t bother getting my hopes up after The Mortal Instruments movie was such a disaster last year, and I couldn’t imagine it would live up to The Hunger Games (which it didn’t quite, but hey, it was still a decent movie).

I couldn’t help but feel sad whilst watching the movie because I know how the trilogy comes to a finish, and I hate the ending *so* much. 😥 I don’t even know if I’ll be able to watch the last movie. I mean…

I love Divergent; the book is definitely a must-read and the movie is worth a watch!

As for which faction I think I’d be in (I mean, if I wasn’t Divergent)…?
It would definitely be Dauntless or Candor🙄

My Review

I’ve finally had some time to finish reading this book after wanting to for so many months! It’s been on my TBR list forever. I’d heard so many good things about it and it was recommended to me by many people, so I was really looking forward to reading it. I don’t think I’ve ever read a book based on werewolves (or “Guardians”, as they’re called in this book), the paranormal books I’ve read have mostly been based on other paranormal creatures so it was kind of a new experience. I enjoyed the book and will definitely be reading the next one – I mean, hello, it’s a paranormal love triangle… How can I resist?

The Liebster Blog Award!

Thank you so much to Eileen from Bookwormstothemax for nominating me and asking the questions! 😀 She actually sent this to me a month ago but I’ve been so busy and just haven’t had any time to do it (I keep asking myself why I decided to start a blog in my final year of uni). I can’t even nominate eleven new bloggers to pass it on because the ones I follow have already been or I just don’t think they’ll do it! 😦 But this was fun to answer and loved the questions – thank you!

And on a side note I’m currently reading and really enjoying Nightshade by Andrea Cremer, I’m so glad I’ve finally had time to sit down and start it! I’m definitely going to try add some more reviews soon 🙂

These are the questions I was asked and my answers:

1. What is your number 1 bookish dream (meeting a character/author, being a character in a book, and etc.)?
It definitely is to kind of be a character in a book. I’d like to have Diana Bishop’s powers from the All Souls Trilogy (she is basically just a kick-ass super powerful witch), but I would want to look like myself. Also, instead of Diana’s Matthew, I’d want Daemon from the Lux Series (or Haden from the Redemption Series). Well then… I obviously haven’t given this a lot of thought or anything… *not*

2. If you could have any power what would you choose?
Telekinesis for sure! Like Jean Gray from Xmen.

3. Who is the one author you want to meet the most?
To be honest, I don’t really want to meet any authors at all… Just like I wouldn’t want to meet my favourite actors in real life. I think it’d ruin the books (and movies) for me – after all, they do say “never meet your heroes”.

4. What’s your favorite childhood book(s)?
Would have to be Harry Potter!

5. If you could have lunch with one character (from book/TV show/movie etc…) who would you choose?
Probably Daemon from the Lux Series (oh, have I already mentioned him? 😛 )

6. What’s your favorite quote?
Probably “She’s mad but she’s magic. There’s no lie in her fire.” or “We are all searching for someone whose demons play well with ours”.

7. Where do you want to travel to the most?

8. Favorite book for this year so far?
Ooh, thats tough. It really depends in what sense, but I guess I’d say Obsidian Book 1 in the Lux Series by Jennifer L. Armentrout (you’re probably starting to see a trend here haha) 🙂

9. What fandoms are you part of?
I actually not part of any… I guess the closest thing is my blog and other bloggers, and I’m not even sure if that counts!

10. Do have any OTPs and if so who? (Can be from TV show/book/etc…)
I actually had to Google what an OTP is, and from what I gather it’s “One True Pairing”. This is practically impossible for me to answer because I always manage to find something wrong with every pairing. I’d have to say Daemon and Katy, and I know I’ve mentioned them a lot but I’m just fawning over the series at the moment and I love the love/hate relationship they have.

11. Who is your favorite character? Why?
I can’t really say that I have one… Theres many characters I like a lot but I can’t just choose one! Super tough question! 😛

My Review

I’ve been so busy over the last couple of weeks with uni that I haven’t had any time to write or respond to any comments! I’ve finally got a bit of free time to write something, get back to people and catch up on some reading, but not as much as I’d like to! 🙂

I’m *so* happy that I continued to read the Redemption series and I can’t wait for the fourth and final instalment to come out later this year! I also wrote a review for Book 1 in the series “Until Darkness Comes” a few weeks ago that you can check out. In the second and third books, the story flows way smoother and is generally is strung much better than the first book – such an improvement! This review contains spoilers…

My Review

I decided that I wanted to read a book that hasn’t been read by so many people, and it was probably one of the bravest reading choices that I’ve made because, for the most part, I’ve read books which are known to be good or are written by famous authors.  I was so excited about starting this series because it’s New Adult, has angels, demons (fallen angels), and a love triangle. The perfect ingredients of sugar, spice, and everything nice…
